Current Salary starts at $42.25 as an Operator B with promotion to Operator A at $49.25 when qualified. 

Description

Constellation’s Pearl River Plant is looking to hire a Control Room Operator to join its team. The Control Room Operator performs Journey–Level work required to operate the site’s central cogeneration/steam plant, central chiller plant, steam and chilled water distribution systems, cooling towers, and related equipment without direct supervision.

The candidate must possess at a minimum, a High School Diploma with 3+ years' work experience in a power plant, and/or US Navy, merchant shipping environment, or equivalent as applicable.

The candidate must have working knowledge of control room procedures, large oil and/or gas fired high pressure (600 and 125 psi) boilers, steam turbine generators, large Electric chillers, steam turbine driven chiller, gas turbine generators, high/low pressure steam auxiliary operations, and cooling towers.

Must have knowledge of safe work practices and procedures, operating orders/work permits (lockout-tagout), water treatment, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

Produce steam, electric, and chill water for customers by ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations of the generating station.

Oversee the operation of plant equipment which includes gas turbine generators, steam turbines, high pressure boilers, large steam and electric driven chillers, associated cooling towers, high voltage switchgear and auxiliary equipment. Start-up and shutdown of equipment under normal and emergency conditions.

Render decisions to remove equipment from service or to continue operations without direct supervision. Works with the other departments on unit dispatch, outages, and electrical switching. Reports environmental incidents in a timely manner.

The candidate will reaffirm the critical importance of compliance with all applicable safe work practices and procedures, and governmental regulations, and overall development of all direct reports.

Additional

Position requires walking, stair climbing, and standing. This individual must be physically able to work in a power plant environment (heat conditions, noise, high elevations, valid driver’s license, and confined spaces).

This position works 12 hour rotating shifts but may be required to work day shift.

• High School education or equivalent with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety, and quality instructions).
• Must have the ability to perform basic math equations.
• Associate degree in a science or technical area strongly preferred.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
• Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
• Able to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) is a plus. (Honeywell/Siemens/Niagara)
