General Responsibilities: Accomplish financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, tracking expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action when necessary. Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, training, and developing driven, high potential individuals Achieve best performance in reactivity and SNM/Fuel Move management. Department Specific Roles/Responsibilities: Develop long-term strategic plan for responsible design/technical support area. Develop personnel, providing growth opportunities and maintaining a robust succession plan. Set priorities for personnel supporting multiple nuclear stations. Provide governance and oversight for related functional areas, including acting as the SFAM for reactivity and nuclear fuels related items. Drive quality by enforcing standards and setting clear expectations for employees, vendors, and support personnel. Establish strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information. Interact competently with SLT, station MRMs, NSRB members, and regulators and address any concerns in an effective and efficient manner. Manager Reactor Engineering: Responsibilities listed below are applicable for all stations that are managed, including each refueling outage, reactivity maneuver, general oversight, and travel to both home and non-home sites. Ensure that safe, reliable core/storage designs and processes are implemented and managed. Balance margins required to safely and efficiently operate the core and store spent fuel with meeting goals to reduce costs. Coordinate / direct the development and performance of technical products required to operate and maintain the fuel and Special Nuclear Material (SNM) in accordance with design and licensing basis. Responsible for receiving and implementing the loading of nuclear fuel assets worth $80-$150 million per reload per station. Responsible for management and operation of nuclear core worth $360 million in fuel assets per nuclear unit within design and licensing limits. Coordinate / schedule load drop evolutions and provide inputs to genmgr to ensure stations are maximizing generation. Provide on-shift oversight of reactivity related core maneuvers. Collaborate with the fuel vendors and nuclear core designers in running codes, selecting inputs and validating outputs used in fuel analysis and corresponding documentation. Maintain overall responsibility for computer-based reactor analysis and reactivity control systems. Monitor core and storage operations to ensure exposure and licensing assumptions are met. Follow reload/ISFSI campaigns process for meetings, special assignments, exposure accounting, cycle management reports and control blade/component management. Maximizing the effective life of components by ensuring replacement and usage strategies are optimal. Verify key goals and requirements are met in reload/ISFSI projects to ensure optimal performance with maximum operational flexibility. Provide support and review of Nuclear Fuels activities. Assignments may also include technical evaluations, criteria and testing plans for plant modifications, performance of operability determinations, and oversight of the station Reactivity Management program. Evaluate risks associated with key assumptions and develop mitigation strategies for unacceptable outcomes. Serve as a leader by participating in industry meetings, conferences, and working groups.
